Description

A late 19th or early 20th-century technical drawing instrument set by H. Schery & Co of Manchester. The set is housed in its original leather-covered wooden case featuring a fitted deep blue velvet interior and a matching blue silk-lined lid. The interior lid is decorated with gilt lettering identifying the maker as H. Schery & Co, Drawing Instruments, 134 Deansgate, Manchester. The instruments are constructed from nickel silver and steel, comprising a collection of instruments including a large pair of compasses with interchangeable pen and pencil attachments, a large pair of dividers, a ruling pen with a carved white handle appearing to be bone, a smaller spring bow compass, an extension bar, and various accessory points. The exterior of the case lid is inset with a rectangular nameplate, likely of bone, which bears the hand-lettered names R. Stout and P. Fernihough, alongside the characters V. A.
