Description
A Collection of items relating to the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem and the St John Ambulance Association, dating to the mid-20th century. The group includes a circular silver and enamel Serving Brother or Sister breast medal, featuring a white eight-pointed Maltese cross set against a black enamel background with heraldic lions and unicorns positioned in the angles. The medal is suspended from a black silk ribbon with a pin-back fastening. Also included is a miniature dress version of the same insignia, attached to a frayed black silk ribbon. The collection further contains two enamel lapel badges: one circular gilt and enamel badge for The St John Ambulance Association with a blue enamel border and red centre, and a circular enamel badge for the London Midland and Scottish Railway Centre St John Ambulance Association. The railway badge features a red outer ring and a black inner field. The reverse of the medals is plain and silver-toned with visible tarnishing. No recipient names or hallmarks are visible.
