Two English Glazed Ceramic Miniature Toby Character Jugs

A pair of mid-20th-century miniature glazed ceramic character jugs produced in the traditional English style. The first jug is a full-length seated Toby figure depicted in a classic pose, holding a foaming tankard in his left hand and a pipe in his right. He is finished in a polychrome palette featuring a teal-blue coat, yellow waistcoat, red breeches, and a black tricorn hat. The base of this figure is impressed with the circular mark MADE IN ENGLAND. The second jug is a bust-length character of a portly gentleman, also wearing a black tricorn hat and a black coat over a white polka-dot cravat. This piece features a cream-coloured handle with orange-painted highlights and an indistinct incised mark to the base. Both items are typical examples of Staffordshire-style miniature pottery.
