Description

Two Chinese carved cork landscape dioramas, a traditional handicraft known as ruanmu hua, typically produced in the Fuzhou region. Each piece is meticulously hand-carved from cork to create a detailed, multi-layered three-dimensional scene. The larger diorama features a central double-roofed pagoda, a bridge with two cranes, and two pandas at the base of a gnarled pine tree. It is housed in a rectangular black-lacquered wooden frame with glass panels. The base bears a red and white paper label printed with MADE IN CHINA and the Simplified Chinese characters 中国制造 (Zhongguo Zhizao). The smaller diorama depicts a garden pavilion surrounded by pine trees and cranes, housed in a glass case resting on a separate dark-stained wooden stand with two upright supports. The base retains a gold-toned foil label inscribed MADE IN CHINA above the Traditional Chinese characters 中國製造 (Zhongguo Zhizao). These pieces are in the style of those produced by the San You factory and other Fuzhou craft workshops during the mid-to-late 20th century.
