Lot 527:
Description
A vintage industrial boat-shaped weaving shuttle, of a type used in the textile mills of Northern England. The body is constructed from a dense, fine-grained hardwood, likely persimmon or cornel wood, selected for its durability and resistance to splintering during high-speed operation. The shuttle features reinforced conical steel tips at each end to withstand the impact of the picker in a power loom. The upper surface is designed with a longitudinal slot and four transverse circular apertures intended to guide the thread and secure a pirn or bobbin. A partially legible manufacturer stamp is present on the side of the wooden body, which begins with the name HENRY followed by a second word that has become illegible through wear and use.
Length: approximately 345mm.
