Description
A white metal commemorative medal issued for the Preston Guild in 1862. The piece was manufactured by William Moore of Birmingham, as evidenced by the maker mark W. MOORE. BIRM. located at the base of the reverse design. The obverse features the arms of Preston, incorporating the Agnus Dei and the letters P.P. within a decorative cartouche, surrounded by the inscription PRESTON GUILD 1862 R. TOWNLEY PARKER ESQUIRE MAYOR. The reverse features the Preston Town Hall design with the legends PRESTON TOWN HALL and FOUNDATION STONE LAID 2ND SEPT 1862. The medal is pierced at the 12 o’clock position for suspension.
