Description

This hand painted oriental vase dates to the late Qing Dynasty or Republic period, circa late 19th to early 20th century. Constructed from china, the vessel is of yuhuchunping or pear-shaped form, featuring a globular body and a slender neck terminating in a flared trumpet mouth. The exterior is elaborately decorated in overglaze famille rose (fencai) enamels with the traditional ‘hundred butterflies’ motif. These colourful insects are interspersed with four circular medallions, each containing a crane in flight amongst clouds, symbolising longevity. The base bears an iron-red four-character apocryphal mark for the Chenghua period (Cheng Hua Nian Zhi), which is characteristic of porcelain produced during this later era. Height: approximately 250 mm.
