Lot 217:
Description
An early 20th-century longcase clock, also known as a grandfather clock, constructed from oak with a dark-stained finish. The case is designed in the 18th-century revival style, featuring a hood with a swan-neck pediment and carved floral terminals. The hood has an arched glazed door and side panels with pierced fretwork. The trunk contains a long door with a shaped upper panel and a brass-lined keyhole. The base features a single raised rectangular panel and sits on a plain plinth. The clock has a square brass dial plate with ornate gilt-metal corner spandrels. The silvered chapter ring displays black Roman numerals for the hours and an outer minute track. The centre of the dial has a matted brass finish. A secondary selector dial is located to the left of the main ring, marked with CHIME and SILENT. Two winding holes are present on the dial face. The mechanical movement is of a twin-train design. No weights or pendulum were present at the time of cataloguing.
