Description
A pair of mid-20th-century miniature circular porcelain cabinet plates or pin dishes, each presented on a three-pronged brass-tone metal stand. The plates feature central polychrome transfer-printed scenes in the fête galante style, depicting courting couples in 18th-century attire within pastoral landscapes. The left-hand plate is designed with a smooth circular form, a deep cobalt blue border, and a single gilt line at the rim. The right-hand plate features a scalloped edge and a turquoise blue border embellished with scrolling gilt filigree. The name Fragonard is printed at the base of the central scene on the right-hand plate, referencing the French artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard. These items are characteristic of continental decorative porcelain produced for the giftware market.
Diameter: approximately 45mm to 50mm.
