Large Ceramic Sherlock Holmes Character Jug

A large glazed ceramic character jug depicting the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes. The figure is modelled wearing a green checked deerstalker hat and a green jacket over a shirt and tie. He is depicted with a reddish-brown moustache and sideburns. The handle is formed as a large curved smoking pipe in ochre and brown tones with a black mouthpiece. The underside of the jug is plain and lacks any factory marks, impressed numbers, or printed logos. A small white adhesive label with the handwritten characters 21 A is present on the base.
