Portmeirion Oven to Table Relief Moulded Game Pie Dish and Cover

A Portmeirion relief-moulded game pie dish and cover manufactured in the United Kingdom. This oval lidded casserole is constructed from glazed earthenware finished in a rich, mottled brown glaze in the Rockingham style. The lid features heavy relief-moulded decoration depicting a game scene with a deer and several game birds, including pheasants, set amidst stalks of wheat or barley. The exterior walls of the dish are similarly decorated with relief panels of game birds and grain. The lid is designed with a recessed rim to fit the body and includes two integrated loop handles. The base of the piece features two impressed and gilded marks. One circular mark contains the words OVEN TO TABLE. The second, larger oval mark contains the words PORTMEIRION and MADE IN ENGLAND surrounding a central numeral 3 inside a circle, indicating the size.
