Description

A colour print on paper after the original 1884 oil painting by Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones. The composition depicts the legendary King Cophetua in dark armour kneeling at the feet of the beggar maid, Penelophon, who is seated in a simple grey gown. The scene is set within an ornate, multi-tiered architectural interior characteristic of the Pre-Raphaelite style, with additional figures looking down from an upper gallery. The print is housed in a deep-set, stepped wooden frame with a distressed brown and grey finish, presented under glass with a white mount. No signatures, dates, or inscriptions are visible on the face of the work.

720 x 375 mm.
