Lot 1161:
Description
A matching turned wood mortar and pestle, likely mid-20th century folk art. The mortar is of goblet form with a wide, flared rim and a circular pedestal foot, featuring distinct horizontal banding in the wood grain with a polished finish. It is ornamented with several incised bands of geometric dashed and pointed patterns around the midsection and rim. The accompanying pestle is turned from a lighter-coloured wood with a tapered shaft and a small knob finial. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible on the exterior surfaces. A UK one-pound coin is included in the images for scale.
