US 1981 Space Shuttle Columbia STS-1 Commemorative Medal, Bronze-toned Metal

A commemorative numismatic medal struck in a bronze-toned base metal. The obverse features a space shuttle design with the inscriptions THE NEW ERA OF SPACE EXPLORATION and USA. The reverse displays a central triangular emblem with the text Columbia and YOUNG CRIPPEN, bordered by the inscriptions KENNEDY SPACE CENTER FLORIDA and the date APRIL 12, 1981. This medal was issued to commemorate the first orbital flight of the Space Shuttle Columbia (STS-1).
