G79 Weekly General Auction Monday
Lot 386:
Description
A vintage novelty figural money box depicting Charlie Chaplin in his legendary role as “The Tramp”. This single lot consists of one hand-painted ceramic figurine designed with a stylised, oversized head. The character is portrayed in his signature attire, including a black bowler hat with a cream-coloured band, a vibrant red bow tie, a black tuxedo jacket, and grey trousers. The piece functions as a coin bank, featuring a narrow slot integrated into the crown of the hat. The underside of the base contains a circular opening for coin retrieval, currently secured with a translucent plastic stopper. While the item bears no visible manufacturer marks, serial numbers, or country of origin, its construction and aesthetic are characteristic of mid-century novelty ceramics produced in Japan for the Western giftware market. Dimensions not provided.
