Description
This lot comprises a group of commemorative paper items relating to the coronations of King George VI in 1937 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The primary item is a Briggs Coronation Transfers booklet, reference A 502, published by William Briggs and Company Limited for the 1953 coronation. The booklet contains a set of unused iron-on embroidery transfers including a cross-stitch sampler featuring Westminster Abbey and Union flags (A502A), a central portrait of the Queen surrounded by national floral motifs (A502B), eight cutwork corner designs (A502C), and a large floral spray with a commemorative banner dated 2nd June 1953 (A502D). The booklet includes double-page illustrated instructions for various embroidery stitches such as French knot, satin stitch, and stem stitch, alongside a list of required Clark’s Anchor Stranded Cotton thread colours. Also included are two items from the 1937 coronation: a colour printed illustration depicting the ceremony in Westminster Abbey dated 12th May 1937 with an attached yellow silk ribbon, and a black and white photographic portrait print of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth issued as a promotional item by Zenobia True Flower Perfumes.
