Description
This original topographical watercolour on paper depicts a view of the village of Brindle in Lancashire, England. The representational composition features the square stone tower of St James’ Church in the background and a prominent white-painted building, likely The Cavendish Arms, situated behind a road. A ‘School’ warning road sign is visible in the left foreground amidst green foliage. The work is executed using transparent watercolour washes with finer detailing for the architectural features and the church clock. The painting is inscribed Brindle in the lower left and is signed and dated J Thompson 1991 in the lower right corner. The artwork is presented in a double-lined cream mount and housed in a glazed dark wood frame with a gilt inner slip.
