Description
This modern hand-painted work on papyrus depicts two female figures in profile, rendered in an ancient Egyptian revival style. The foreground figure represents Queen Nefertari, wearing a vulture headdress surmounted by double plumes and a solar disk. Beside her is a goddess, likely Isis or Hathor, depicted wearing a horned headdress with a solar disk. The composition includes a yellow cartouche containing hieroglyphic symbols and a decorative vertical border of multi-coloured squares. The artwork is signed H. Wagner in black ink along the right-hand edge of the papyrus. It is float-mounted against a black background and housed in a broad gold-toned frame with a textured, repeating mosaic square pattern. An adhesive label on the reverse of the frame is inscribed LEADING QUEEN NEFERTARI.
