Description
This collection consists of several pieces of East Asian and East Asian-style ceramics, featuring both Japanese and Chinese export wares. The group includes a baluster-form earthenware vase with a flared, scalloped rim, decorated in the Satsuma style. The exterior features hand-painted panels depicting figures in a landscape, bordered by dense floral and geometric patterns rendered in raised ‘moriage’ enamel and gilt highlights. The base of this vase displays a circular red mark with the numerals 6 and 2. Also included is a Chinese porcelain lobed pedestal dish with a flared foot, featuring famille rose overglaze enamel decoration of floral sprays and a central lotus landscape scene. A square red seal mark is present on the base of the pedestal. The set is completed by three porcelain cups. One miniature cup depicts a hand-painted windmill landscape and is marked on the base with a star and wreath symbol above the words Made in Japan. A second miniature cup features hand-painted floral motifs and is stamped in black on the base with Made in Japan Handpainted. The third is a tea cup decorated with an allover millefleurs style overglaze enamel pattern and small figurative vignettes; this piece has no visible maker marks.
