Description
A rectangular lithographed tinplate confectionery casket produced for Geo Bassett and Co Ltd of Sheffield by Barringer, Wallis and Manners Ltd of Mansfield. The exterior is decorated with lithography simulating dark wood grain and features embossed faux-brass strapwork, corner mounts with rivet detailing, and a decorative escutcheon on the front face containing a mock keyhole. The hinged lid opens to reveal an unpainted tinplate interior. The base features a central circular printed mark for Geo Bassett and Co Ltd, Manufacturing Confectioners, Portland Street, Sheffield, surmounted by a three-shield emblem. A smaller manufacturer’s mark for B.W. and M. Ltd. Mansfield is located in the lower right corner of the base.
