Lot 90:
Description
This lot features two items of vintage cold-weather headwear from the United Kingdom. The first item is a traditional country shooting hat or deerstalker manufactured by J. Barbour & Sons Ltd. The exterior is constructed from heavy wool tweed in a brown, tan, and black check pattern. The design includes a structured crown, a front peak, and side ear flaps that are secured at the top with a dark brown fabric ribbon tie. The interior is finished with a tan-coloured quilted synthetic lining. It contains a woven black label identifying the maker and displaying two Royal Warrants: one for H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh (granted 1974) and one for Her Majesty The Queen (granted 1982). The absence of the third warrant (Prince of Wales, granted 1987) suggests a production date between 1982 and 1987. The second item is a hand-knit chunky wool or wool-blend beanie. It is rendered in a deep teal blue ribbed knit and features a wide folded brim decorated with two horizontal yellow stripes. There are no labels or maker’s marks present on the knitted item.
