A Cased Set of Mappin & Webb Prince's Plate and Stainless Steel Cutlery, 1933

A cased set of assorted cutlery by Mappin & Webb, presented in a wooden box with an inset brass plaque on the lid. The plaque is inscribed PRESENTED TO F.W. BROWN Esq. BY THE STAFF & PUPILS OF SPRING GROVE SECONDARY SCHOOL MIDDLESEX ON THE OCCASION OF HIS MARRIAGE 27TH JULY 1933. The set consists of knives with stainless steel blades and ivory-coloured handles, along with a selection of spoons and forks. An ivorine label located inside the lid reads MAPPIN & WEBB 156-162, OXFORD ST., LONDON. SHEFFIELD PARIS. The cutlery is marked with various stamps; the knife blades are marked MAPPIN & WEBB STAINLESS SHEFFIELD, and the handles of the forks and spoons bear the mark MAPPIN & WEBB PRINCE’S PLATE. The internal dividers are constructed of wood and lined with a brown felt-like material.
