Description
A trio of graduated antique pewter measure tankards of British origin, comprising quart, pint, and half-pint capacities. Each vessel is of cast construction with lathe-turned banded decoration to the body and a spreading foot rim. The tankards feature S-scroll handles with thumb-rest terminals. The vessels are marked with the name JAMES YATES, a prominent Birmingham pewterer. Capacity marks including QUART and PINT are stamped near the rims. The items bear several Victorian Weights and Measures verification stamps, including a crown above the initials V R (Victoria Regina) and the local inspector number 200. A date stamp for 1898 is visible within a shield-shaped mark. Small touchmarks, including a seated lion and a crown within shields, are present near the upper rims.
