This collection consists of an assortment of vintage Special Olympics memorabilia, primarily documenting regional events within the United Kingdom from the late 1980s and early 1990s. The group includes various celluloid pinback buttons and enamel lapel pins. Notable among the items are several badges for the Special Olympic Games Leicester ’89, featuring the event’s lion mascot, including one example with the hand-inscribed name MONTY. Also present are buttons for Special Olympics England 1990 and I am a Special Olympics Volunteer badges in various colourways. The collection features a leather keychain with a metal insert for the Special Olympics Liverpool 1990 games. Corporate support is represented by a yellow badge for Glenfield Cleaning Contractors in aid of the 1991 Leicester games. Smaller enamel pins include designs for Special Olympics United Kingdom and various regional chapters, as well as sport-specific badges such as one for table tennis. The items are constructed from a mix of metal, plastic, and leather. No manufacturer’s marks are clearly visible on the reverse of the items, though some metal backs show standard pin and butterfly clutch mechanisms.
