Lot 181:
Description
A large circular decorative wall charger or plaque constructed from embossed brass sheet. The central relief depicts a genre scene in the Dutch Golden Age style, featuring several figures in 17th-century period costume gathered around a table. Elements include a man smoking a long pipe, a woman holding a small child, and a dog in the foreground, set within a tavern interior. The wide outer border is elaborately decorated with a repeating pattern of scrolling foliate motifs, C-scrolls, and raised oval medallions. The reverse shows the corresponding indentations from the repousse process. A small hole for hanging is located at the top edge. The piece is in the style of Dutch Renaissance revival brassware popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. No maker marks are visible.
