Lot 133:
Description
A collection of eleven promotional metal tumblers or open-top tins produced for the Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum brand. The group features two distinct graphic designs based on the traditional tattoo flash art of Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins. Seven tins are finished in a blue, white, and red colour scheme, depicting a Medusa head wrapped in snakes with the text THE ORIGINAL SAILOR JERRY on the front. Four tins are finished in a red, black, and white colour scheme, depicting a seated pin-up girl with the text SAILOR JERRY SPICED on the front. Each tin features a black rectangular panel on the reverse containing the Sailor Jerry Spiced logo and descriptive text. The blue Medusa tins bear text describing the artwork as a metaphor for adventures that call out to your soul. The red pin-up tins bear text describing the pin-up as a woman so perfect you could tattoo her on your arm and look at her your whole damn life. Both designs reference Norman Collins’ history inking soldiers and sailors in WWII-era Honolulu. The base of each panel includes the instruction RESPECT HIS LEGACY. DRINK SAILOR JERRY RESPONSIBLY. The items are constructed from thin-walled metal with a high-gloss printed finish and silver-tone metallic interiors.
