Description
Two commemorative fine bone china items related to British military history and remembrance. The first is a circular plate produced by Edwardian Fine Bone China to mark the 50th anniversary of the Dunkirk evacuation (1940-1990). The design features a central Dunkirk Veterans Association emblem encircled by the text TO COMMEMORATE THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF DUNKIRK – MAY-JUNE-1940-1990. The outer border is decorated with twenty divisional signs including the Royal Navy, R.A.F., Merchant Navy, and various infantry and armoured divisions of the 1940 British Expeditionary Force. The reverse bears a blue printed backstamp with a crown logo and an inscription dedicating the plate to those who never returned from the beaches. The second item is an oval platter commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Royal British Legion (1921-1991). The design features a large stylized red remembrance poppy overlaid with the Royal British Legion badge, with the border text THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION 1921 – 70th ANNIVERSARY – 1991. The surface includes the full text of the poems In Flanders Fields and The Victory Emblem. Both pieces are finished with transfer-printed decoration and gilded rims, and both are fitted with spring-loaded wire wall hangers.
