Description
An early 20th-century mantel clock housed in an oak case. The case features a shaped arched pediment above a rectangular body with an inset circular glazed aperture to the right-hand side to allow visibility of the pendulum. The front-opening door reveals a circular silvered metal dial with black Roman numerals, a outer minute track, and two winding apertures. It is fitted with blued steel spade-style hands. Internally, the clock is fitted with a mechanical twin-train movement mounted on a cast iron bracket. The movement is regulated by a pendulum with a wooden rod and a circular brass bob. A beat adjustment scale is mounted to the interior right of the case. The presence of two winding holes indicates a striking movement, likely sounding on the hour and half-hour. The style and construction are characteristic of German clockmaking from this period, resembling the work of companies such as the Hamburg American Clock Company (HAC) or Junghans.
Height 450 mm, Width 225 mm.
