The group is primarily composed of several issues of Charles Buchan’s Football Monthly, a pioneering sports magazine of the era. Identifiable issues include October 1963 featuring Jimmy Armfield of Blackpool and England, November 1963, February 1964 featuring Jimmy Greaves of Tottenham Hotspur and England, and March 1964 featuring Bryan Douglas of Blackburn Rovers and England. The lot also contains a hardback edition of the All Stars Football Book and a smaller publication titled The Park Drive Book of Football, edited by Gordon Banks. The magazines include photographic covers and internal features on contemporary players such as Gordon Banks in his Leicester City kit. These publications are significant historical records of the English game during the pre-World Cup 1966 period.
