Description
This set of ironstone tableware was manufactured by Broadhurst in Staffordshire, England. It features the Corfu pattern, created by the designer Kathie Winkle on the Riviera shape. The collection includes six small cups, six matching patterned saucers, and Six plain black saucers. The decoration on the patterned pieces consists of a hand-painted stylised floral motif in turquoise blue, chartreuse green, and ochre orange over a black transfer-printed outline. The saucers have a central floral cluster surrounded by a geometric border of blue squares. The cups feature a wrap-around band of the floral design. The base of the patterned saucers bears a comprehensive underglaze backstamp reading: BROADHURST, EST 1847, IRONSTONE, MADE IN ENGLAND, RIVIERA SHAPE, Kathie Winkle signature, DESIGN, HAND PAINTED, UNDERGLAZE COLOURS, CORFU. The cups have the word ENGLAND and a numeral impressed into the base.
