Description

This water flask, commonly referred to as a matara, is of globular, slightly ovoid form. The main body consists of a metal vessel encased in a fine iron or steel chainmail covering made of interlocking rings. The chainmail is gathered towards the base, leaving a circular section of the inner container visible. The flask features a tall, stepped neck and a rounded, button-shaped cap, both manufactured from cast brass. The brass components and the chainmail exhibit a deep, unpolished patina consistent with age. This type of vessel was traditionally utilised as portable equipment across Ottoman and Persian regions.
Diameter: approximately 150mm.
