Lot 623:
Description
A collection of ceramic items comprising a commemorative plate, a mid-century dish, and a pair of serving platters. The lot includes a Country Artists fine bone china plate from The Stratford Collection, produced to commemorate the marriage of H.R.H. The Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer on 29th July 1981. The plate features transfer-printed sepia-toned portraits within a central well, surrounded by heraldic motifs including the Prince of Wales’s feathers and the red dragon of Wales. It is housed in its original cardboard presentation box.
Also included is a Carlton Ware earthenware dish of biomorphic, kidney-shaped form. The piece features a hand-painted minimalist abstract design of dark brown sweeping lines over a cream glaze. The base bears the printed manufacturer’s mark for Carlton Ware, including the inscriptions Handpainted, Made in England, and Australian Design.
The collection is completed by a graduated pair of Pizzato oval serving platters. These glazed earthenware pieces are finished in a high-gloss white glaze and feature a moulded beaded or pearl border to the inner rim. The base of the smaller platter is marked Pizzato, Hand made in Italy.
