2 DAY GENERAL AUCTION NO MINIMUM COMMISSION 20%+Vat On HAMMER
Lot 360:
Description
A vintage floor-standing fret saw, also referred to as a scroll or jig saw, constructed from a combination of original mechanical elements and a later electrical modification. The machine features a wooden frame, possibly beech or oak, which supports the cast iron and steel cutting mechanism. A central component is the large cast iron drive wheel designed with five curved spokes. The tool has been retrofitted for powered operation with the addition of a mid-to-late 20th-century electric motor housed in a black casing, wired to a standard UK 3-pin plug. No manufacturer names, trademarks, or patent dates are clearly visible on the main structure. The architectural style of the cast iron components and the timber framework is characteristic of workshop equipment from the late Victorian or Edwardian periods. A white auction label is attached to the upper horizontal support, printed with the number 350 and dated 27th April 2024.
