Description
This character jug is produced by the British pottery manufacturer Shaw and Copestake under the brand name Burlington Ware. The piece is fashioned from glazed earthenware with a monochromatic pale celadon blue finish. It is modelled in the form of a seated laughing figure, frequently identified as Hotei or the Laughing Buddha, with his hands resting on his knees and a flared rim functioning as a pouring spout. The base displays a printed rectangular backstamp for Burlington WARE MADE IN ENGLAND, alongside impressed marks reading MADE IN ENGLAND and DESIGN.
