Description
A glazed earthenware figurine of a male lion, produced in England during the mid-20th century. The lion is modelled in a standing position with an open-mouthed roar and its head turned to the side. The piece features a high-gloss translucent glaze with hand-applied shaded tones of tan, brown, and cream to highlight the mane and anatomical details. On the underside of the belly, there is a black stamped mark reading MADE IN ENGLAND with the numerals 33 and a single character appearing to be a 6 or C. The style and modelling are highly consistent with animal figurines produced by Melba Ware (H. A. Wain & Sons).
