Description
This lot consists of two pieces of cream-glazed earthenware. The first item is a commemorative mug produced for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The cylindrical form features a loop handle and is decorated with relief-moulded decoration over a stippled ground. One side depicts a profile portrait of the Queen within a laurel wreath, inscribed June 2nd 1953. The opposite side displays the royal cypher E II R beneath a crown, flanked by the word Coronation and four square panels containing the national floral emblems of the United Kingdom: the rose, thistle, shamrock, and daffodil. The second item is an elongated, oblong serving tray with wavy, scalloped rims. The centre is relief-moulded with the script French Garlic Bread. The ends of the tray are decorated with moulded depictions of garlic bulbs and ears of wheat. No maker marks are visible on either piece.
