Lot 61:
Description
A 19th-century historicist spelter figure depicting a high-ranking military or royal personage, identified by the inscription Georges on the base. The figure is rendered in the style of the late 17th to early 18th century, wearing an elaborate allonge wig topped with a tricorn hat. The subject is dressed in a breastplate over a long coat featuring intricate cast foliate patterns and holds a baton in the right hand. The pose is commanding, with the figure flanked at the feet by military trophies including a pile of cannonballs and a bundle of pikes or fasces. The sculpture is cast with an integral rectangular base featuring moulded edges and a central decorative cartouche on the front face embossed with the name GEORGES. The construction is hollow, typical of spelter casting from this period. The underside reveals the light grey colour of the base metal alloy with some blue-green and ochre-coloured surface residue. A 150mm scale ruler is present in the documentation for reference.
45cm – 50cm height.
