Description

This lot comprises three items of Japanese ceramic ware dating from the late 19th to early 20th century, encompassing the Meiji and Taisho periods. The first item is a Satsuma-style earthenware koro (incense burner) and cover produced by the Kinkozan workshop of Kyoto. It features a cobalt blue ruri ground decorated with intricate gilt floral and scrolling patterns. Two shaped reserve panels contain polychrome enamel and gilt scenes: one depicting birds amongst flowering branches and the other a traditional landscape with architectural elements. The pierced lid is topped with a spherical finial. The base bears a three-character mark in black for Kinkozan (金光山). The second item is a Kutani-style porcelain bottle vase with a globular body and a tall, slender neck. It is decorated in the aka-e style with an iron-red ground and gilt scrolling. The body features shaped panels containing floral motifs, including chrysanthemums, in red, black, and gold. The base bears a red-painted mark for Kutani (九谷). The third item is a small Satsuma-style earthenware bowl with a lobed or foliate rim and a characteristic crackle glaze. The interior is decorated with a rural landscape featuring a thatched minka house and flowering cherry trees, bordered by a blue and gold patterned rim. The base features an impressed FOREIGN mark, used for items intended for export to the United Kingdom, alongside Japanese characters including the character 部 (Bu).

Vase height: approximately 135mm. Koro height: approximately 75mm. Bowl diameter: approximately 85mm.
