Description

A collection of religious icons of Greek Orthodox origin and style, executed on wooden panels. The largest hand-painted icon depicts Saint John the Baptist as the Angel of the Desert, shown winged and holding both a scroll and his own severed head. This panel features significant surface craquelure and Greek inscriptions on the scroll and upper corners. A second hand-painted icon depicts Saint George slaying the dragon, bearing Greek inscriptions for Saint George and the signature Hand of the monk Dometios, Holy Mountain, Mount Athos, indicating a mid-to-late 20th-century origin from the Athonite monastic community. The collection also includes two modern printed reproductions on wood. One depicts the Holy Unmercenaries, Saints Cosmas and Damian, with identifying Greek text. The final piece is a small pink-toned print of the Virgin Mary, bearing the Greek abbreviation for Mother of God.
