Description
A West German glazed earthenware storage jar, manufactured by Scheurich Keramik. The vessel of bulbous form features horizontal ribbing and a flared rim flanked by two scrolled handles. The front is decorated in relief with the word RUMTOPF above a circular medallion containing a fruit motif, likely a peach or plum, within a rope-twist border. The whole is finished in a mottled honey-amber translucent glaze. The unglazed base is impressed with W. GERMANY and the form number 801 – 28. Height approximately 28 cm.
