Description
A lot comprising two relief-moulded stoneware beer steins with hinged pewter lids, manufactured by the German firms Wekara and Gerz. The first stein, by Wekara (Wilhelm E. Krumeich), features a central high-relief scene of Innsbruck, Austria, depicting the Annasäule on Maria-Theresien-Straße against the Nordkette mountains. This scene is flanked by relief-moulded floral motifs, including edelweiss, with the name INNSBRUCK at the base. The unglazed underside is incised with the number 5520 and bears a blue rectangular WEKARA stamp. It is fitted with a conical pewter lid with engraved decoration and a scrolled thumb lift. The second stein is by Gerz (Gerzit) and features a polychrome relief-moulded scene of figures in traditional dress in a tavern or folk dance setting, framed by ornamental scrollwork. The base bears a circular brown stamp for ORIGINAL GERZIT GERZ with a central potter logo and the numeral 4. This stein is fitted with a domed pewter lid with floral relief and is accompanied by an original Gerz Bierseidel paper information leaflet in German, English, and French.
