Description
A collection of glazed ceramic figurines manufactured by Beswick, England, depicting characters from the stories of Beatrix Potter. The assortment includes Squirrel Nutkin holding a nut, Hunca Munca tending to a wicker cradle, Tommy Brock the badger carrying a sack, Pigling Bland in a black jacket and blue waistcoat, Appley Dapply holding a tray of baked tarts, and Lady Mouse from The Tailor of Gloucester in period dress with a hand mirror. Each figure is naturalistically modelled and finished in underglaze colours. The bases feature brown printed backstamps reading BEATRIX POTTER’S followed by the character name, F. Warne and Co. Ltd., Copyright, Beswick, and England. Several pieces include incised model numbers to the bases, including number 22 on Hunca Munca, number 8 on Tommy Brock, and number 26 on Lady Mouse. Appley Dapply features a pink hand-painted A and a black stamped 10 mark.
