Lot 213:
Description
A mid-20th-century dark oak fall-front bureau or writing desk, designed in the Tudor Revival style. The piece is constructed with a slanted fall-front above two small frieze drawers and a lower double-door cupboard. The front surfaces are decorated with stylized carved linenfold panels, a characteristic feature of makers such as Wood Brothers (Old Charm) and Jaycee. It is a single-piece unit supported on a plinth base with a shaped front apron. The fall-front opens on brass hinges to reveal a fitted interior comprising six vertical pigeonholes and two small drawers with turned wooden knobs. The writing surface is inset with a red skiver featuring gilded decorative tooling along the borders. The lower cupboard section provides an open storage space, with the doors secured by internal brass lever-catch mechanisms. The drawers and cupboard are fitted with turned wooden knobs, and the fall-front has a central brass escutcheon. No maker’s marks or labels are visible.
