Description
John William Foster (British, 20th Century). This original watercolour on paper depicts a grey racehorse and jockey in blue and red silks. The artwork is executed in a traditional sporting style, capturing the horse in mid-stride on a turf track. The background includes a white rail, groups of spectators, and a landscape with woodland and hills rendered in a soft-focus technique. The work is signed John Foster in the lower-right corner. A gold label on the reverse provides the artist’s full name, John William Foster, and an address in Lingdale, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Cleveland. The painting is presented in a cream-coloured mount with a blue inner border and a silver-toned frame.
