Lot 162:
Description
An Italian Sorrento style marquetry inlaid work table of rectangular form, dating from the late 19th to early 20th century. The top is elaborately decorated with multiple panels of intricate marquetry and parquetry, featuring central cartouches with bird and foliate motifs, framed by decorative geometric and scroll-work borders in various wood veneers. The top surface is finished with a high-gloss lacquer. The table features a deep frieze with a central keyhole, characteristic of musical work tables from this region designed to house a music box mechanism. It is supported by four square-section out-swept curved legs. No maker marks, labels, or signatures are visible to the piece. The underside shows construction consistent with the period, including the use of slot-head screws.
