A Collection of Early 20th Century Commemorative and Personal Items including a C.W.S. Jubilee Medal

This collection comprises several personal and commemorative items primarily of British origin from the early to mid-20th century. The central item is a gilt metal commemorative medal for the Co-operative Wholesale Society (C.W.S.) Jubilee, spanning the years 1863 to 1913. The obverse features a relief portrait of John Shillito, President of the C.W.S., while the reverse displays a wheatsheaf motif with a banner inscribed Labor and Wait. The medal is suspended from a purple fabric ribbon with a brass safety-pin style attachment. Also included is a circular aluminium snuff tin for Singleton’s Super-Menthol Snuff, manufactured by Singleton and Cole Ltd of Birmingham and branches, bearing patent number 591326. The assortment features two vanity tools with carved mother-of-pearl handles, consisting of a button hook and a pointed stiletto. The collection is completed by two silver-plated flatware items: a small butter spreader marked EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver, and an apostle-style condiment spoon marked WR.SP within a rectangular punch on the stem.
