G86 Weekly General Auction Monday
Lot 5:
Description
A rustic low stool or small bench designed in the Egyptian style, featuring a heavily adzed and hand-carved dark-stained pine frame. The construction comprises a thick, curved saddle-form seat with two circular apertures at the ends. The central portion of the seat is inset with a panel of natural short-haired animal hide in tan and black, fixed with a border of decorative brass-toned upholstery studs. The stool is supported by two angled A-frame legs, which are joined by a single transverse cylindrical stretcher secured on the exterior with tusk tenon joinery. The piece exhibits a coarse grain and visible chisel marks throughout. No maker’s marks are present.
Condition report:
The stool is in good rustic condition. The surface finish shows minor scuffs and small chips to the dark stain consistent with age and use. The hide upholstery is intact and the structural joinery is sound.
