Description
A British Royal Navy austerity pattern greatcoat manufactured from heavy navy blue wool. The garment features a double-breasted construction with a two-by-four button arrangement and large notch lapels. Design elements include two vertical slit waist pockets and plain cuffs without additional ornamentation. The interior is partially lined with a black cotton-blend fabric and contains heavy cotton pocket bags. An original manufacturer’s cloth label is stitched to the interior, printed with SIZE 2, a red Broad Arrow War Department mark, Montague Burton Ltd. LEEDS, and the date 1948. The service member’s name C. SCHOFIELD is stencilled in white block lettering on the interior lining and the inner wool facing of the left breast.
