G85 Weekly General Auction Monday
Lot 241:
Description
A lever-operated mechanical bank in the style of the Shepard Hardware Co. Trick Pony model. The item is constructed from cast iron and features a white-painted pony with a red and gold saddle mounted upon a rectangular blue base. The name TRICK PONY is cast in raised, gold-painted lettering on both sides of the base. The mechanism is designed so that placing a coin in the pony’s mouth and depressing the rear lever causes the head to lower and deposit the coin into the adjacent trough. The assembly utilises modern Phillips-head screws, which is consistent with 20th-century reproductions of the 1885 original.
Scale is indicated by an adjacent one pound coin.
