Two Mason's Patent Ironstone Mandalay Pattern Lidded Ceramic Vessels

Two pieces of Mason’s Patent Ironstone ceramic decorated in the Mandalay pattern. The lot consists of a large lidded tea caddy or storage jar of rectangular form with chamfered corners and a domed lid, supported by four integral bracket feet. The second item is a small lidded trinket box of oval form with a lobed body and matching lid. Both items are decorated in a traditional Imari style featuring dense floral arrangements in a palette of cobalt blue and iron red, enriched with extensive gilt highlighting against a cream-coloured ground. The base of the larger vessel bears a printed mark in brown featuring the Mason’s name, a crown, a banner containing the words Patent Ironstone, the pattern name Mandalay, and England in block capitals. Hand-painted decorator marks in green and impressed parallel lines are also present on the underside.
